Dear Spring Creek Community School families,
I trust you are enjoying the last days of summer break! We will back at school on Tuesday, September 7th for Grades 1-7 from 8:30-10:30am. Students will return to their last year’s class and line up (please see the attached SCCS Ingress and Egress .pdf file for a refresher) at the same spot as last year upon arrival to the school. We are still trying to minimize the amount of traffic on the school grounds for regular school days, so please drop your child off as close to the bell as possible and do not linger in groups, thank you in advance for your help with this. Please also pick up your child and head off the school grounds as soon as possible upon dismissal. We understand that some of you have not seen each other in a while but it is important that we adhere to our protocols to help keep everyone safe.
- Our pick up and drop off protocol will be broken on the first day of school as your PAC has organized an opportunity to meet our new Principal Mario Tenisci at our Welcome Back Cafe happening on the first day of school on Tuesday, September 7th from 8:30am-10:30am. PAC will be providing coffee and snacks to parents after drop off in the outdoor basketball courts at the bottom of the stairs. This is also an opportunity to chat with PAC on how you can get involved in your child’s learning experience. PAC is also keen to hear your input on the hot lunch program, how can you help. PAC looks forward to seeing you there. This will be a safe outdoor event providing commercially prepared goods and coffee. Health and Safety measures will be adhered to and personal space of those attending will be respected. Hand sanitization will be provided.
Our new students to Spring Creek will be lining up at the front entrance to SCCS and look for a teacher holding a sign for 'New Students'. They will then be taken to the library for a mini orientations and then whisked off to join other classes.
Our new students to French Immersion will also meet at the front entrance where they can check with any of our French Immersion teachers to find out which lineup they are in.
Kindergarten gradual entry begins on Wednesday, September 8th. Families with kindergarten students should have signed up for a one hour meeting session. Please contact the office if you haven’t received anything and we can book you in.
Other information to get us started for the year ahead:
- Please review the COVID Health & Safety Measures that are still in place or new to the plan (attached)
- We still ask that you do not enter the school without calling ahead to make an appointment. Please continue to email or call for general inquiries. If you do need to connect with your child, we are still asking you call at the front doors and we will assist you. If you do need to enter the building, we will continue to follow the protocols in place such as washing hands, masks for all adults, and respect for personal space.
- School supplies – please do not bring anything for the first few days of school. Once students have been placed with their new teachers for the year, those who have ordered supplies through the school will have them delivered to their new teachers classroom once they are determined. If you are still looking to purchase school supplies through the school (making it very easy) you can do so by checking out the attached flyer.
- Please bring water bottles, indoor shoes and dress for the weather each day (more info to come on what specific teachers will want you to bring when classes are made).
- Pack in and pack out –snacks and lunch waste –let’s try to go litter-less
- The goal will be to have all grade 1-7 students in their new classes by Friday but this may happen the following week on Monday. We will keep you informed as things unfold. Kindergarten students will begin full-time on Sept 15th and will know which class they will be in prior to this.
- A reminder that class placement is a complex and thoughtful process. We cannot guarantee all requests but we work as a team to make placements that create balanced classes.
- Please get in the habit of checking out our school website on a regular basis (monthly updates and other news) & emails (we send a weekly Friday update).
- First PAC meeting will be on Monday, September 20th at 6pm (more info to come from our PAC).
We hope this information will help answer all of your questions related to back to school at SCCS! We will continue to send information out next week as we plan our classes for the 2021-2022 school year. Please email with any questions you may have and we will try our very best to help.
We hope you all have a wonderful Labour Day long weekend and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school next week!
Mario Tenisci, Principal
